Project 8 Star Wars Dubstep

This project was different than the other ones I've done so far because I feel like this is more harsh dubstep then what I have been doing in class which is a . I've made about 2-3 drum dubstep beats and put them throughout the piece. I used a snare, kick and hat and layered them all together to use at once. I used complimenting drum beats at the same time during the piece along with a melody or bass line which I thought sounded kinda cool. I used the channels 3xosc, and Poizone to create bass lines and melodies through out the song. I mainly used Poizone to create the bass lines that I wanted using longer notes to compliment the melody. I like Poizone because its pretty simple to use and I just like it in general, because using Piozone was one of my favorite projects throughout the year. I used gross beat volume too incorporate some event sound coordination to the Star Wars video like when things blew up or changed dramatically. I used gross beat in my song too on some parts to help emphasize when those events occurred. I was having a hard time with gross beat because I kept applying it to the whole song instead of to one particular part. So I only used gross beat volume a little bit because I was nervous about ruining the whole piece (which I did at one point using the time envelope, no worries I fixed it though). I spent a good time of this project trying to figure out how to work with gross beat which I did so I think its used effectively in my Star Wars dubstep.

Project 7

For project 7 what I did was I created a relaxing nature like piece, trying to use sytrus to create a flute/ violin sound. For the melody I used high pitches with longer note then short notes so it gives it a happy/ relaxing vibe. Then I brought the sound down a couple of steps to create harmony within the first part of the piece. For the middlwe part brought the notes down a whole octave along with the bass part (which I also made on sytrus). To finish the project I added automation clips on both of the melodies and on parts of the basses. While doing this project I had hoped to find a bell/triangle like sound to put in because I felt it would just made it better, but sadly I couldn't really find one I liked because I was picky about it and it didn't sound right.

Project 6

In this project I went for a happy upbeat sound. I just used two poizones to created this composition. I composed a happy melody basically having the ADSR all the way up, also playing with the oscillators a & b which are both on pulse. For the bass line I just added in longer lower notes to create the bass while at some points mimicking the melody only with longer notes. The ADSR is lower on the second poizone or the bass part. To end the piece I added automation clips to bring it to and end.

Project 5

With project 5 I composed my own loop on the piano role and then used Poizone to create a sound out of the annoying default buzzing sound they gave. I decided to go for a softer lighter happier piece to create, so I made my sound that could be used almost entirely through the whole piece with a pitch change in the middle. This you'll hear right away at the beginning of the piece. To compliment this sound I used poizone again to create a heavy base sound with long notes so it wouldn't over power the melody. I added in some low bass sounds and a triangle sound to start off the piece too. To end it all I used automation clips to end the piece to end the whole thing

Project 4

For project 4 I decided to create a piece that was somewhat relaxing to listen to and wasn't too overwhelming. To start out the piece I used the Fruity Filter with a guitar sound. Also adding an automation clip to it to pan it in and out when I wanted to to be quieter or louder depending on what I added next. Next I used the X-Y controller with a kick sound to add in some percussion I wanted a somewhat of a dramatic change in the percussion so when I recorded the X-y controller I moved around a lot with it. To add more to this I put in the channel Boobass I used the riff machine to get a sound I liked for it the just added and automation clip on top of that. Finally I added FL keys and wrote out a simple piece to be played when the percussion fades out through out the piece and to end it I had the Slayer and the FL keys fade out together.

Project 3

For Project 3 I used the riff machine on basically all the channels to create a upbeat dance like sound. I used Boobass, Drumpad, Simsynth, Fl keys and Slayer. I repeated the basic loop I created which consisted of the Boobass and the Simsynth. I didn't get too creative with this and just used the riff machine. I added automation clips to the whole piece and to the Drumpad and Boobass to help fade in and out between parts of the song.

Project 2

For project 2 I tried to go for a up beat pop sounding song. By using the channel FL Keys and then using the riff machine to find a loop I liked. To go along with that I used another channel Boobass for a bass pattern sound, one that was somewhat repetitive to keep throughout the entire piece. Then I went through the drum kits and packs to find some basic drum beats to put in because I really didn't play with any of the channels that contained the drums. I tried over lapping some of the patterns to see how it would sound, along with playing with the velocity. I was having some trouble with loading my mp3 to DivShare so I'll make another post next class with the mp3.

For my first project I used the pack files and mostly used loops from the drum kits. But since it was my first project I also used the the default clap and hat sound. From pattern to pattern I added a few different snare drums that were relatively close to one another. I had a difficult time coming up with a transition from pattern one to pattern two, but for my first project I think, it came out alright. I used the layering tool to mix a couple of different kick drum sounds while also using the velocity tool to change the volume for each note.
